THANK YOU
“My mom—Rhonda Ridinger—passed away last month following complications from a stroke. She was a remarkable person and she left the world a better place than she found it. She spent forty-six years as a kinesiology professor and field hockey coach at Missouri State University, leaving a legacy of service, compassion, and excellence. On a personal level, I’m proud to say some of my better qualities as a dad, husband, and lawyer are traceable to her influence on my life.
I announced my campaign for state senate from Missouri’s Fourth District last fall, focusing on issues of affordability for young families, public safety, and good schools. In about five months, we’ve built an effective team, talked with endless people, and raised more than $70,000. We’ve operated from the idea that politics doesn’t have to feel like it currently does, both in D.C. and in Jeff City. We shouldn’t have to feel a sense of dread or embarrassment every time we start to read a news article. Instead, politics and government should focus on basic, achievable ways of improving people’s lives.
Part of the solution is for good people, especially thoughtful young folks, to have a pathway to elected office. This is especially true in Missouri, a state that continues to suffer from a brain drain, nudging younger generations to other corners of the world. Unfortunately, that pathway is perhaps more narrow now than ever before, in part because of financial and time constraints on young families. A successful Missouri hinges on our leaders making our communities more livable, accessible, and inclusive.
As too many know, the grieving process is complicated and takes time. I’ve decided to suspend my state senate campaign and refocus on my family. Right now, maybe more than ever, they need me and I need them. I’m appreciative beyond words for support from my family, friends, colleagues, and the community throughout this process.”
